Volunteer | Requirements

Every day children of all ages in need of a safety zone are admitted Wichita Children's Home. Children do not understand why police have taken them from their home and separated them from their siblings. Teenagers do not know why their parents have kicked them out of the house. What we understand is that in order for these children to have a chance to a secure future, it is up to us to help them and help their families get the resources they need for a new healthier and happier start at life. Volunteers play a vital role in assisting us in meeting these needs and providing children a warm, nurturing environment in which they can heal, learn and grow from their experiences.

To become a volunteer and touch a child's life, simply:

  • Complete a volunteer application form and bring it in to us at 810 N. Holyoke.
  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Attend volunteer orientation and training held the first Tuesday of each month at 6pm at the Home located at 810 N. Holyoke.
  • Complete a Health Assessment form including a tuberculosis test.
  • Give written permission for a background check through the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
  • Observe and maintain strict confidentiality.

These steps help ensure the safety of the children at the Wichita Children's Home.
